It’s all about the pointing

When it comes to building with flint, the art really is in the pointing. When using flint blocks, the pointing will hide the joints and make the wall look more authentic.

There are different types of pointing you could opt for. We normally point with a Sussex finish which is more flush and rubbed off with a hessian sack. We were contacted by a customer in Laughton, Sussex who had bought our flint blocks and laid them, he then requested we go and point them. On this occasion he was looking for bird’s beak pointing which is more raised – and more time consuming!

Here is the finished result of his knapped random flint blocks with bird’s beak pointing. If you want some help with pointing, we would be happy to quote, or we are putting together a helpful video – so please email if you’d like a copy!
